The Mental Health Screening and Referral to Treatment in Dental Practices (MSDP) is recruiting oral health providers

Mental health screening can improve quality of life and treatment engagement. Unlike primary medical services, where screening for mental health concerns is standard practice, dental offices rarely perform this as part of routine dental care. The MSDP pilot study will evaluate the feasibility of integrating mental health screening and referral to mental health services into dental practice workflows. Five practitioners from the South-Central Region of the National Dental PBRN will be recruited to enroll between 5 and 8 patients in each dental office.

WHAT IS EXPECTED OF YOU? 

• Recruit 5-8 adult patients
• Administer a screening form and informed consent on a study-provided iPad
• Review screening form scores and provide patients a list of local mental health services
• Complete post-visit surveys

WHAT IS EXPECTED OF MY PATIENTS? 

• Complete screening forms upon arrival to your office
• Be offered a referral list to local mental health services
• Complete post-visit survey via email within one week of visit

WHY SHOULD YOU PARTICIPATE? 

• Learn to integrate procedures for mental health screening and referral to mental health services
• Keep the iPad at the end of the study (approx. $300 value)
• Dentists, dental hygienists, office staff, and patients will be compensated
