Romesh Nalliah, the Associate Dean for Patient Services and Clinical Professor of Dentistry in the Department of Cariology and the Department Restorative Sciences & Endodontics at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, gives a testimonial about his experience and the benefits of conducting research as a part of the National Dental Practice-Based Research Network.
Welcome to the National Dental Practice-Based Research Network
Good oral health and hygiene are important—without them you run the risk of developing serious oral conditions and diseases. To ensure our mouths and bodies remain in top working condition, the National Dental Practice-Based Research Network (PRBN) is dedicated to conducting dental practice-based research.
What is the National Dental PBRN?
The National Dental PBRN is a community of participating dental professionals and organizations committed to advancing knowledge of dental practices and discovering ways to improve them. We investigate research questions and share experiences and expertise with one another to embrace practical science for the benefit of everyone, from dental professionals to patients.
The basics of oral health are no longer enough for the evolving world we live in. Though poor dental hygiene has been linked to several diseases such as cardiovascular disease, pneumonia, and periodontitis, we want to shed light on the more common issues associated with the dental industry. From understanding pain after dental procedures and evaluating factors for successful crowns, the National Dental PBRN is providing case studies that will help lead the field of dental practice-based research and dental collegiality.
Why we’re important
Studies and research in the dental field have often been referred to as “scientifically valid, but clinically useless”. Our goal at the National Dental PBRN is to change that narrative while improving the efficiency and effectiveness of dental care as a whole.
We offer the dental industry a way to expand its knowledge-base while educating professionals and patients; the more knowledgeable you are about a topic, the quicker you will advance in your field. At the National Dental PBRN, our research helps fuel a sense of curiosity and critical thinking in students and practitioners, promoting a habit of lifelong learning. Here you can grow your network, expand your experience, and educate those within your practice.
Become a member
Through our membership program, you gain access to networking opportunities, participation in clinical studies, free continuing education credit, and the chance to grow your portfolio. We offer three different levels of membership—Informational, Limited, and Full—so that everyone can enjoy the benefits the Network offers.
If you are a dentist, dental hygienist, or dental therapist, consider joining the network at the full membership level and be ready to join clinical studies. Researchers, teachers, students, and others have joined the Network at the informational level so that they can stay in the know about the exciting things happening within the Network.
