Our Mission at National Dental PBRN

The National Dental Practice-Based Research Network seeks to improve oral health by conducting dental practice-based research and by serving dental professionals and their patients through education and collegiality. 

We want to break down National Dental PBRN’s core principles to serve as a reflection of who we are and how our network is changing the field of dentistry for the better. 

Mission

Our mission at The National Dental Practice-Based Research Network is to improve oral health by conducting dental-practice-based research and by serving dental professionals and their patients through education and collegiality. The National Dental PBRN seeks to provide dental practitioners with ample resources for better care decisions while improving the experience for dental patients. We harmoniously bring together research and practice for the overall benefit of our profession and our patients.

We offer 3 kinds of memberships, so you can be as involved as you want to be. These memberships include: informational, limited, and full. 

Vision

The National Dental Practice-Based Research Network’s vision is to lead the field of dental practice-based research and dental collegiality. We pride ourselves on offering completely free memberships, so everyone in the dental community has access to our network if they choose to. 

We strive to lead the field of dental practice-based research with cutting-edge and relevant topics. We want to change the field of dental research by helping translate the evidence that is produced in academic centers to  dental practices, big or small, across the nation. Since our vision is to directly lead the field of dental practice-based research and dental collegiality, that’s what our research focuses on. 

Goals

The National Dental Practice-Based Network’s main goal is to improve the dental industry. To do this, National Dental PBRN sets achievable goals for our learning and research. We strive for continuous and relevant learning, always searching for the best evidence to be used in dental practices. 

On a practical level, achievable goal setting looks like organizing proposed projects into defined states, using measurable benchmarks that are then monitored by and communicated to network participants frequently. Recently, the COVID-19 pandemic brought members of our network together as they actively shared measurable research and best practices for dentists and patients that improved oral care. 

Likewise, we provide a multitude of resources for our members like style guides, research updates, and more. It’s one of our goals that all of these tools are updated and relevant to our member’s needs.

Every day, our goal is to be a successful practice-based network. A PBRN is a group of outpatient care practices that, although primarily devoted to providing health care services, has affiliated as a group – and typically with an academic health center – to investigate research questions and to share experiences and expertise. Through our studies, publications, resources, and community, National Dental PBRN is becoming a leader in dental practice-based networks.
