Annual meeting of South Atlantic practitioners

Post-meeting summary

On October 10th and 11th , 2013 the South Atlantic Region of the Network had its 2nd annual meeting at the Hilton Hotel and Conference Center in Gainesville, Florida. The Thursday night reception encouraged clinicians to network and to view research posters.  Members and guests had fun with the ‘Climb to the top of discovery with the Nation’s Network’ climbing wall photo opportunity.  On Friday, the 8-3:30 meeting, with 68 Network members and 10 guests attending, was a resounding success.  After welcoming remarks by Regional Director Dr. Valeria Gordan and the Dean of the University of Florida College of Dentistry, Dr. Boyd Robinson, the meeting began with a keynote address by a motivational speaker. Four practitioners gave presentations on their experience with studies covering different aspects of study participation. A featured presentation by Dr. Henry Gremillion, an expert in facial pain and the Dean of the LSU Dental School, concluded the morning.  After lunch and poster viewing the afternoon began with a short presentation by Dr. Henri Logan, a professor and expert on oral cancer detection.  In two breakout sessions, practitioners discussed questions related to both Dr. Gremillion’s and Dr. Logan’s presentations.  Each table focused on one specific question, but discussed questions on both topics. After the lively discussions, a panel presentation by the eight moderators gave an in-depth review of the questions discussed.  Additional questions and comments from the audience provided more ideas regarding study development.
